"My English is really bad"

"I make too many mistakes,"

"My colleagues speak much better than me"

"I feel stupid when I speak English"

"It's too much to learn! "

....etc. etc.

The above are all comments from Spanish speakers I've heard in recent weeks talking about their English.

What do you think the result of all this negative energy is?

Of course, if you put negative in, ⬇️ you tend to get negative out ⬆️ !

Maybe it's time to "reframe" some of these negative thoughts which are blocking progress.

Here are some different ways to think or say these statements:

💪 Instead of "My English is really bad," you can say, "I am working on improving my English every day."

💪Instead of "I make too many mistakes," you can say, "I am learning a lot from my experiences and am constantly improving."

💪 Instead of "My colleagues speak much better than me," you can say, "Comparing doesn't help anyone. I'm happy my colleagues speak English well as I can learn a lot from their strong English skills."

💪 Instead of "I feel stupid when I speak English," you can say, "I will always feel awkward speaking English, but if I don't speak up then people will never hear my contribution"

💪 Instead of "It's too much to learn!" you can say, "I am excited about the challenge of learning and improving my English skills."

The next time some negative self-talk appears, use some of these positive reframes. You might find that once you start putting positive in ⬇️, you get positive out 💪!

In my experience, negative self-talk is the biggest obstacle to ever communicating with confidence in English. In this post we reframe some common negative thoughts.
